SEEMA KOHLI BIOGRAPHY

Art by Seema Kohli Celebrated contemporary Indian artist Seema Kohli moves fluidly across mediums as she explores femininity, beauty and the deeper layers of spiritual experience. Working across painting, sculpture, performances, and fine art prints, each medium becomes a distinct yet harmonious expression of her evolving vision, creating the rich and recognizable world of Seema Kohli’s art.

Reimagining feminine divinity within Indian mythology is the central theme in Seema Kohli’s paintings. Her spiritual art is rooted in mythology, and she engages with the concept of the Hiranyagarbha—the golden cosmic womb described in the Yajur Veda—as a symbol of creation, transformation and interconnectedness. She also often incorporates traditional motifs like winged female figures, lotuses, swans and the Tree of Life. As the artist explains, “We are all like the branches, leaves, roots of one Universal Consciousness… existing because of each other.”

Trained in Philosophy at Miranda House and in Applied Arts at South Delhi Polytechnic for Women, artist Seema Kohli has built a distinguished international career. She has exhibited in major cities across India as well as internally, including a landmark solo exhibition at the Museum of Sacred Art in Belgium. Seema Kohli’s artworks are also held in significant collections including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Kochi Museum of Arts, the National Gallery of Modern Art in Bangalore and the Rubin Museum of Art in New York.

All artworks are hand-signed by the artist and come with a certificate of authenticity. For collectors who wish to buy Seema Kohli paintings online, please contact the gallery.
