Artist Vinita Karim blends imagination with lived experience in her mesmerizing canvases. Having lived in more than a dozen cities across Europe, Asia and the Middle East, her memories of diverse cultures, geographies and architectural styles are transformed into composite places. Vinita Karim’s cityscape paintings also frequently incorporate gold and silver leaf or embroidered elements. In her latest series, she stitches silk threads directly onto the canvas, adding texture and depth.

“I am creating a home wherever I go,” she says, reflecting on her practice. “I have lived in so many different places and have developed a deep emotional connection with many of them, like the sky and expansiveness of the Sahara Desert, the minarets of Istanbul or the boats in the Padma River in Dhaka.” This multicultural spirit is at the heart of paintings by Vinita Karim.

Educated in art at the Gerlesborg Art Institute in Stockholm (BFA) and the University of the Philippines (MFA), the artist also studied economics and business at the University of Stockholm. Vinita Karim’s art has been exhibited widely in India and internationally, including in Dhaka, Singapore, Canada, China, Saudi Arabia, the United States and more.
